Lagoon Systems - What are Lagoon Systems? Lagoons are pond-like bodies of water or basins designed to receive, hold, and treat wastewater for a predetermined period of time. If necessary, they are lined with material, such as clay or an artificial liner, to prevent leaks to the groundwater below. In the lagoon, wastewater is treated through a combination of physical, biological, and chemical processes. Much of the treatment occurs naturally, but some systems use aeration devices to add oxygen to the wastewater.

Johnson Earth Tech Canada Inc. This community of people serves as the administrative centre for the Fort Smith Region of the Northwest Territories. The banks of the Slave River are prone to landslides, the most serious of which occurred in , and caused the death of one individual, and the abandonment of a portion of the community. Resources were immediately mobilized to start the process of replacing the discharge pipeline. These resources included heavy machinery to stabilize the river bank, and engineering resources to investigate the landslide, and design a new discharge pipeline. The design of a new discharge pipeline included several unique characteristics to absorb future movement in the river bank, recognizing that the slide area would continue moving in the future. The new discharge pipeline was commissioned in June of

What are lagoon systems? Lagoons are one of the most popular methods for wastewater treatment around the world they are also among the simplest and least expensive. Lagoon systems use natural and energy-efficient processes to provide low-cost wastewater treatment for many homes and rural communities in the U. Lagoons are especially well suited to small communities because they can cost less to construct, operate, and are simpler to maintain than other systems. They require more land than other wastewater treatment methods, but land is usually more available and less expensive in rural areas.

Introduction This section deals with discussion of data, design considerations and regulatory issues. General Concepts This section entails general concepts of biological treatment and nitrification in lagoons and ponds.
